The township of PRUNIERES located at a height of 1000 mcouns 235 permanent inhabitants. It's 1320 hectares span between the 9 km shoreline of the Serre-Ponçon lake, and "les Aiguilles de Chabrières" (the Chabrière needles), neighbouring the Reallon Ski resort.
The village towering above the lake is divided in several hamlets. The main income of it's inhabitants comes from agriculture and tourism, unless they choose to work in Gap , "Chef lieu" of the department, only 20km away.
The Saint Michel Chaple located in the middle of the water on the domain of the township, is a kind of emblem for the department and is the most photographied location of the Hautes Alpes.
Thanks to it's sunny climate, many tourists comme here to enjoy it's water sports and mountain pleasures. They find lodging in the numerous campings, campings at the farm, bed & breakfats, hotels and seasonal rentals of the area.
For several years now, Prunières has built a port facility with buoys, pontoon and water ramp access allowing boat enthousiasts to sail, fish, water ski,... in complete security since the port is watched by the Gendarmerie club.
The castle owned by the Countess of Prunières is now occupied by her descendants.
The St Sauveur Church of the 15th century has been entirely renovated.
