Built on the bottom of the valley, at a height of 835m, on an ancient glacier lock, the township of Chorge spans across a vast territory : from the slopes of Piolit to those of Aiguilles de Chabrières and joining the shores of the lake of Serre-Ponçon. Surrounded by a generous nature between prairies and forests, Chorges follows peacefully the rythm of seasons.
A short bit of history...
Built on the ancient Cottian road linking Turin to Arles, Chorges an ancient city initiated by the Indo-European people of the Caturiges, 400 years BC, has known many tribulations through it's history.
The numerous attacks , from ennemies as far away as the Wisigoths to the nearby provencial troups, lead to a grouped dwelling, houses stuck closely together, and fortifications (the door of the Souchons and it's guard tower are the remains of those times).
A historical trail allows the wanderer to catch glimpses of this agitated past.
