The Durance valley vine fields have been cultivated for centuries. In the middle ages in Chateauroux, the land was owned by the bishops of Embrun. They had established here their rural residence and their cellar. Even though the vineyards are diminishing, this vine culture tradition for the needs of the familly has lasted till today. In 1988 the farmers of the valley, teh town hall of Châteauroux and the Ecrins national park dedcided to plant 8 experimental grape varieties in order to select the one best fit to the climatic condtions of the area. |
